Starting 02 January 2019, Malaysians who lose or damaged their passports will be fined between RM300 and RM1200 for a replacement.

Malaysians who lose or damaged their passport for the first time will be fined RM400. Meanwhile children aged 12 and below, and students aged 21 and below studying abroad will be fined RM300 if they lose or damage their passport for the first time.

Those who lose or damage their passport for the second time will be fined RM700, while children age 12 and below and students age 21 and below studying abroad will be fined RM600.

For third replacement, Malaysians will be fined RM1200 while children age 12 and below and students below 21 and below studying abroad will be fined RM1100.

Previously Malaysians who applied for a replacement passport after losing or damaging their passports were not penalised.
